Connect with staff, community

Thomas O. Sweeney | Sweeney Real Estate & Appraisal owner and principal broker

Early in my career I learned that the building and management of a successful business comes down to creating supportive relationships, both in the community and at the team level.

Being involved in the local community is one of the best choices I have made, both personally and professionally.

Beyond the obvious ways of building relationships, there are some seemingly inefficient habits that I’ve formed over the years, which have proven time and again to provide lasting returns. For example, my office does not have a coffee maker but there is a method to my madness.

When we are all “forced” to leave the comfort of our office, our team catches up on events of the day, work allocations and client projects. And we often run into a client or referral contact – emails and phone calls can’t compare to a face-to-face interaction.

By doing this seemingly simple act, we are helping improve, invest in and support our fellowship, as well as Rhode Islanders and their businesses.

For a number of years, I have volunteered for a variety of nonprofits. Giving back to the community has been personally rewarding and has fostered lasting friendships, but it has also been a phenomenal way of elevating my professional profile and earning new referral relationships.
